The Minnesota Timberwolves capitalized on a pivotal Game 3 victory against the Golden State Warriors, clinching a 102-97 win on Saturday night at Chase Center. Anthony Edwards, who exploded for 36 points, was integral to the Timberwolves’ second-round playoff success. His performance, including a clutch three-pointer late in the game, helped Minnesota take a 2-1 series lead.
Edwards shared his thoughts on what sparked his second-half surge, where he racked up 28 of his 36 points. “Finchy put me in great positions,” he explained, referencing coach Chris Finch’s game plan. Edwards continued, “It’s realizing less ball screens because all they’re going to do is probably trap it.”
Despite struggling early in the game, Edwards found his rhythm after the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga dunked on him. “I feel like when Kuminga dunked on me, that got me going more so than anything here,” Edwards said.
Edwards also praised Julius Randle, who posted a triple-double with 24 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. “He was incredible, man,” said Edwards. “He’s been making the game a lot easier for me, so I appreciate having him.” Randle’s ability to orchestrate offense and support his teammates was a key factor in the Timberwolves’ fourth-quarter push.
The Timberwolves executed their offense with precision late in the game, overcoming a five-point deficit in the final period. Edwards’ three-pointer with 1:19 left gave them a four-point lead, and Jaden McDaniels also played a crucial role, adding a timely three to extend the advantage.
As Minnesota heads into Game 4, Edwards’ confidence remains high. “I never lack confidence, so if I got that, I’ll be alright,” he stated, underscoring his mental approach to the game.
With Game 4 scheduled for Monday, the Timberwolves will look to extend their series lead while Golden State will aim to bounce back without the presence of star Stephen Curry, sidelined by a strained hamstring.
