Greek Basket League round-up (week 21)

Kolossos Rhodes- Trikala B.C. 79-69

Kolossos had 3 players scoring 14 points, played good defense in the most crucial parts of the game and overtook the obstacle of Trikala who tried but their poor shooting totals betrayed them.

Apollon Patras- A.E.N.Kiffisias 73-66

It was not a quality game but the intense battles inside the two paints and the passion the two sides played, was enough to keep us entertained. The visitors are a high scoring team but this time they fell short, since only Hogg who scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds was there for them. On the winner’s side, Meyer added 17 points.

A.G.O.Rethimno- Koroivos Amaliadas 75-67

Another good defensive display and a win for a home side this weekend, coming from AGOR which allowed no more than 20 points in any quarter, bringing frustration and lack of temper to the visitors. Giannopoulos led the game in points with 18 while while Harrow and Stone had 16 and 15 to go along. However the most impressive stat line belongs to  Panagiotis Vassilipoulos from Koroivos with 10 points and 15 boards;

Arkadikos B.C.- P.A.O.K. 66-68

Arkadikos set their own pace in this match-up against PAOK, had the game exactly where they wanted to but their star man Jones (18 points 9 rebs and 5 assists) missed the last shot and did not get the game to overtime. For the winners Tepic scored 15 points.

Aris- A.E.K. 77-76

The most important game of the weekend was played between Aris and AEK, with the winning team most likely snatching the 3rd position in the league. In a hard and no so technical game, with Aris fans setting “Nick Gallis Hall” on fire, Loukas Mavrokefalides was sent off with two consecutive technical fouls early on, leaving AEK without their best player. However “Dikefalos” put up on a hard fight, but the last shot made by Green, found no target. MVP was Michalis Pelekanos who scored 15 points and some of the most important shots behind the arc. For the defeated side Brown added 14 points.

Panathinaikos- Lavrio G.S. 94-56

Williams start heating up with 17 points in a relaxing evening at home against Lavrio and now the “Greens” are looking to give everything they’ve got in Euroleague against Malaga. Tight defense and free flowing offense gave them one of the easiest wins this year despite Bolds’ (19p.) and Young’s (16p.) attempts.

Olympiacos- Kavala B.C. 115-61

Just like their rivals, Olympiacos had no trouble against Kavala playing amazing offensive basketball, many players added double digits and left Kavala unable to stay close after the 3rd minute of the first period. Top scorer of the game was Strawberry with 19 points but MVP was Printezis who made a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
