Anthony Edwards details mentality shift, praises Julius Randle after Game 2

Anthony Edwards shared insight into Minnesota’s bounce-back performance Thursday night, emphasizing defensive urgency and team mentality following a 117-93 win over Golden State in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

When asked how the Timberwolves flipped the script after a sluggish Game 1, Edwards pointed to the film room.

“We watched film yesterday,” he said. “We seen that it wasn’t just we didn’t make shots. It was more so our defensive pressure and intensity — we didn’t bring it. So we knew we had to bring it today.”

The 23-year-old guard, who scored 20 points in the victory, briefly left the game in the first half after tweaking his left ankle but returned without showing any lingering effects.

“Feeling great. Yep, feeling great,” Edwards said postgame when asked about the injury.

Minnesota dominated the shorthanded Warriors early, capitalizing on Stephen Curry’s absence and jumping out to a 13-0 start.

Veteran forward Julius Randle, who posted 24 points and 11 assists, received high praise from Edwards for his leadership and impact.

“It means a lot, man. He’s an alpha male, man. He stands out,” Edwards said. “And when he plays like that, we’re hard to beat.”

The Timberwolves’ defensive pressure held Golden State to just 15 first-quarter points and 28.1% shooting from three.

Minnesota’s bench also played a major role, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker scoring 20 points and Donte DiVincenzo contributing three three-pointers.

The focus now shifts to San Francisco for Game 3, where Edwards said the approach remains simple.

“Go out there and try to win,” he said. “That’s the only mentality. That’s all I know.”

Before wrapping up the interview, Edwards acknowledged Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, who approached him postgame.

“Yeah, that’s OG, man,” Edwards said. “I met him before. Got nothing but love for him, for sure.”

Game 3 is set for Saturday night at Chase Center, with the series tied 1-1.
