Denver Nuggets head coach David Adelman shared his thoughts on Thursday’s tough 111-105 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, which sent their first-round playoff series to a decisive Game 7. The loss was primarily attributed to a problematic third quarter where Denver’s offense faltered, and their defense struggled to secure critical possessions.
“We got sped up,” said Adelman. “It reminded me of Game 3. We got into a situation where we weren’t organized, and that led to turnovers.” The Nuggets committed 14 turnovers in the game, a trend that has plagued them throughout the series.
Despite holding their ground in the second half with solid defense, Adelman noted the critical missed opportunities. “We never came up with a 50-50 ball,” he explained. “That’s such a backbreaking feeling. When you do everything right but can’t secure the ball, it gives them extra possessions.”
Adelman emphasized the significance of securing home court for Game 7. The Nuggets earned the opportunity to play on their home floor after a strong finish to the regular season. “You play all year for this moment,” Adelman said. “We earned the opportunity to go back out there and play again in front of our fans.”
As the series nears its conclusion, Adelman acknowledged the physicality of the series, noting how both teams have relied on their star players. “This felt like a seven-game series,” he said. “There’s a lot of talent on both sides, and everyone’s having their moments.”
The third quarter, where the Clippers outscored the Nuggets 32-22, was a key turning point. Still, Adelman remained confident. “We’ll be ready for Game 7. We need to manage our minutes and come out stronger,” he added, referring to the tough physical battle ahead.
Nikola Jokic, who struggled in the second half with just five points, will need to be more aggressive in Game 7. “We might need a little more selfishness from him on the three-point line,” Adelman said. “He’s such an unselfish player, but we need him to take more control if needed.”
With a winner-take-all Game 7 looming, Adelman is hopeful that the Nuggets can bounce back and close out the series in front of their home crowd at Ball Arena.
“We’re excited to play on Saturday,” he said. “If we can avoid the turnovers and make the necessary adjustments, I’m confident we can come out on top.”
