Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet offered high praise for his teammate Jalen Green, emphasizing the young guard’s immense potential and rare athletic upside.

Speaking candidly about Green’s place among the NBA’s top shooting guards, VanVleet drew comparisons to some of the league’s elite while highlighting that what sets Green apart is the sheer ceiling he possesses.

“I don’t know if you can go get another 2 guard with the upside or the talent level,” VanVleet said. “[Anthony Edwards] maybe in Minnesota. I don’t know, does Book have more talent than Jalen or is he more skilled and more polished and more experienced and older?”

VanVleet acknowledged that while players like Devin Booker are currently more refined due to age and playoff experience, Green’s potential remains largely untapped – and that’s what excites him.

He sees in Green a trajectory that could lead to stardom, provided he continues to grow and endure the ups and downs that come with developing as a franchise player.

“I don’t know what Jalen will look like when he’s 26, 27, 28 after the playoff series. And that’s the upside, where it’s like potential can get a little intoxicating,” he added. “He has the talent. There’s no reason for him not to reach that level. He’s got to go through it; he’s got to fail.”

In VanVleet’s eyes, the key for Green is experience – learning through adversity, taking playoff lumps, and continuing to evolve. The talent is unquestionable; now it’s about the journey.
