Here’s Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe applauding Alex Sarr’s rookie season (averaged 13.0 PPG/6.5 RPG/2.4 APG/0.7 SPG/1.5 BPG/39.4% FG/45.4% 2-PT/30.8% 3-PT/67.9% FT in 67 starts).

“I was really proud of Alex of what he did this year. Playing the 5 in the NBA, I think that and maybe the point guard are probably the two hardest positions. You are involved in almost every action offensively. Defensively, there’s almost no resting. And for someone who as a 19-year-old who has not turned 20 yet, I thought he handled himself really well — how he progressed from month-to-month, week-to-week, how he worked. And then his production — he had obviously some unique stats in terms of blocks, threes, assists. He has a very versatile game, and that we’re still learning about.

“I’m putting him in pick-and-rolls as a center late in the year because he’s capable of doing that. I’m not gifting him that; he’s actually capable of doing some of those things. He’s not where he’s gonna be yet, but we’re really pleased with his development this year and we’re really pleased how he attacked the year in terms of his work. We really love his versatility on both sides of the ball and be able to protect the rim and guard on the perimeter. And then offensively — he’s a playmaker, you can run offense through him, and obviously you can see some of the shooting, too, at times. So lots of work to do, but good first year.”
