Malcolm Brogdon on Wizards: “They’re building the right way”

Despite finishing last in the Eastern Conference, the Washington Wizards are earning praise from veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon for their long-term vision and internal leadership.

Speaking with NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Brogdon emphasized that Washington’s new front office has laid a strong foundation under president Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins.

“You know, I’ve been with the new leadership — this is their second, maybe third year and the way they’re doing things as far as how organized they are; their approach with the young guys hanging with the vets,” Brogdon said. “And inside, it’s one of the more veteran-led organizations. They’re doing things on a high level over here.”

Brogdon, who joined the Wizards during a transitional season, averaged 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 23.5 minutes per game.

Washington finished with an 18-64 record, the worst in the conference, but Brogdon believes the public perception of the rebuild doesn’t match the reality.

“This isn’t what people think of when they hear ‘rebuilding,’” he told Robinson. “They’re building the right way.”

The Wizards hired Winger from the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023 and quickly brought in Dawkins, who previously worked under Sam Presti in Oklahoma City.

Together, the duo has prioritized player development and cap flexibility while assembling a roster built around young talent and future assets.

While Washington struggled defensively and allowed a league-worst 120.4 points per game, the locker room stability appears to be intact.

The Wizards have not won a playoff series since 2017 but are betting on continuity, youth, and structure to reverse that trend in the coming years.
