Real Madrid defeated Gran Canaria 85-81 in the 2016 Copa del Rey championship game to claim their 26th King’s Cup crown.

Mexican international Gustavo Ayon won MVP honours with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

But the victory was anything but easy. On multiple occasions, Real Madrid looked to pull clear only for the Las Palmas side to hit back in the final quarter and make things nervy for Real.

But the current Liga Endesa champions held on and sealed the win from the foul line to lift the King’s Cup.

Six Real Madrid players scored in double figures. Jaycee Carroll added 13 points and Felipe Reyes had 12 to go along with Ayon’s team-high 15.

Albert Oliver led Gran Canaria with 16 points.
