With the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey addressed the media to reflect on a challenging campaign and outline what lies ahead.

During the press conference, Morey confirmed that both he and head coach Nick Nurse will continue in their roles through the 2025–26 NBA season, despite the team’s underwhelming performance this year.

Acknowledging the adversity faced by the team, Morey did not shy away from the disappointment felt internally and externally.

“We expect more. We really feel for the fans who put their heart and soul into this team, and we know we’ve let you down,” Morey said. “Ownership gave us the resources to make aggressive moves this offseason to put a championship roster around Joel [Embiid] and Tyrese [Maxey] and sometimes, those aggressive moves don’t initially work out, but we feel good about [them].”

Morey described the 2024–25 season as “obviously a tough season,” but emphasized that he and Nurse are committed to carefully evaluating every aspect of the organization to ensure a better outcome next year.

He noted that the front office and coaching staff would “assess everything” to avoid a repeat of this year’s struggles.

One of the primary challenges for the 76ers this season was a string of injuries that sidelined key players, including Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and newly acquired star Paul George. Morey reassured fans that all three are expected to be fully recovered and ready to go when next season begins.

He said Embiid, Maxey, and George would be “100%” for the upcoming season.

The Sixers’ struggles were reflected in their record, finishing with the fifth-worst mark in the NBA. That standing carries draft implications: if their pick in the 2025 NBA Draft ends up at seventh overall or lower, it will be conveyed to the Oklahoma City Thunder due to previous trade obligations.

The final determination will depend on the results of the NBA Draft Lottery, scheduled for Monday, May 12. For the Sixers to lose their pick, two teams currently behind them in the standings would need to leapfrog them in the lottery odds.

Though the 2024–25 season did not meet expectations, the 76ers’ leadership remains in place with a stated commitment to bouncing back – refocused, retooled, and ready to compete at a higher level.
