The Memphis Grizzlies’ front office felt that head coach Taylor Jenkins had “lost the locker room” this season, largely due to an offseason shake-up in his coaching staff and the team’s struggles during the second half of the season.
The internal belief within the organization was that the players, especially Ja Morant, had stopped responding to Jenkins’s leadership.
A rival Western Conference player shared their thoughts with ESPN, stating:
“That team has lost all of [its] swagger.”
Additionally, one team source highlighted the team’s lack of cohesion:
“You could just tell no one was on the same page.”
The Grizzlies’ front office also decided to fire Noah LaRoche along with Jenkins, while promoting Tuomas Iisalo. Memphis had originally hired LaRoche nearly two months before bringing in Iisalo, with plans to center the assistant coaching staff around him.

Jenkins, according to reports, complied with the front office’s request to revamp the coaching staff, doing so with the intention to “be a good partner” to management.
However, a source close to the situation mentioned:
“Taylor shouldn’t have allowed that to happen.”
Another source emphasized that the players were well aware of the situation’s implications:
“Players aren’t stupid,” said one source. “They know where this is heading when you fire five assistants after the season.”
The changes have raised questions about the Grizzlies’ direction and whether Jenkins can regain control over a team that has struggled to stay united.
