Veteran guard Delon Wright had been largely inactive since joining the Knicks in February, sitting on the bench for much of his first month after being traded from Milwaukee.
However, with injuries to Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride this week, Wright was called up to start Friday’s game in Milwaukee.
Despite the Knicks being outscored by nine points in Wright’s 30 minutes, he contributed 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds in their nine-point victory.
Coach Tom Thibodeau chose Wright for his experience and defensive skills over rookie Tyler Kolek’s playmaking.
Thibodeau praised Wright’s defense, saying, “You can always count on it. He’s aggressive, not afraid, and knows how to play off people.”
Wright, who has averaged just 13.9 minutes per game this season, acknowledged the challenge of staying ready despite limited playing time.
“It’s tough, I’m not going to lie. It’s easier said than done,” Wright shared. “Some days are harder than others, but you’ve got to stay engaged.”
