The Philadelphia 76ers are signing forward Phillip Wheeler to a 10-day contract, NBA insider Michael Scotto reported via HoopsHype.
Wheeler, 23, has spent this season in the G League, averaging 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds while playing for the Maine Celtics and Texas Legends.
The 6-foot-8 forward has experience in multiple leagues, including stops in Argentina, Italy, and Puerto Rico before making his way to the U.S. professional circuit.
Wheeler has shown flashes of high-level scoring ability. On June 7, 2022, he posted a career-high 36 points on 72.2% shooting, along with 10 rebounds, in a BSN game for Quebradillas Pirates.
Philadelphia (23-49) is currently 13th in the Eastern Conference and sits eight games behind the 10th-seeded Miami Heat (31-41), making a play-in push highly unlikely.
With the season winding down, the Sixers are using the opportunity to evaluate young talent like Wheeler as they prepare for future roster moves.
