Former NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire believes Nikola Jokic is the best player in basketball today as the game continues to evolve.
Speaking with NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Stoudemire acknowledged the changing landscape of the league while recognizing Jokic’s dominance.
“The game is going to forever evolve, so Jokic right now is at the top of the game,” Stoudemire said. “He’s playing great basketball, he loves it, he’s nonchalant, and he loves the sport.”
Jokic, a three-time MVP, is once again in the race for the league’s highest individual honor. He is averaging a career-high 29.1 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.3 assists per game this season.
The Serbian center has led the Denver Nuggets to a 45-28 record, placing them third in the Western Conference standings.
Stoudemire also compared Jokic’s game to the constant evolution of basketball, stating, “There’s more players behind him that are going to step in and put on that crown.”
While Jokic remains the gold standard among big men, Stoudemire sees Giannis Antetokounmpo as the only player today who plays with a relentless attack similar to his own prime years.
With the playoffs approaching, Jokic has a chance to further cement his legacy as he looks to lead Denver to another deep postseason run.
