Alba Torrens missed out on representing Spain in the first international window. There was no way that she was missing February’s series of games.

The UMMC Ekaterinburg star missed the first Eurobasket Women 2017 qualifying window last November due to injury and now with the international window approaching, Torrens looks to bring Spain to the brink of qualification.

“Coming home is always exciting,” Torrens said, who can also look forward to competing in the Euroleague Women quarter-finals next month. “We are a family and we always look forward to meeting again. The objectives of each of us are the same – to be the best in the group.

“That makes the fight and the challenge even more rewarding when playing for the national team. The events of November were very important, because of the great work and the results that were achieved – it was a huge step.”

Without Torrens, Spain still managed to collect two wins from their opening two games against Sweden and Finland and their return clash against the Swedes will put the 2013 Eurobasket winners one step closer to qualification.

Torrens knows though that qualification is guaranteed just yet.

“We have not yet qualified and Sweden are a great team that will pose a tough game and we have to be prepared for it.

“In order to win, we have to play a very serious match and be at our best by preparing for this meeting in Logrono.”

Meanwhile Spain coach Lucas Mondelo will return to the sidelines for the contest, having handed the coaching reins to his trusted assistant Victor Lapena for the first group games against Sweden and Finland.

Spain face Sweden on Wednesday, February 24 in Logrono.
