Spurs rally late to defeat shorthanded 76ers

The San Antonio Spurs overcame a third-quarter collapse to secure a 128-120 win over the injury-riddled Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night.

Jeremy Sochan led the way with 23 points, while Keldon Johnson added 20 as the Spurs (30-39) closed the game on an 11-3 run. Stephon Castle recorded 17 points and a season-high 14 assists, helping San Antonio win consecutive games for the first time since early January.

Philadelphia (23-47) was without multiple key players, including Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George. Quentin Grimes and Justin Edwards each scored 25 points, while Guerschon Yabusele finished with 23 points and nine rebounds.

The 76ers dominated the third quarter, outscoring San Antonio 43-27 to erase a 16-point deficit and take a 100-91 lead. However, the Spurs responded in the fourth, tying the game two minutes in.

Chris Paul contributed 18 points on 6-for-7 shooting from three-point range, while Devin Vassell chipped in with 20 points and seven assists. San Antonio shot 48.7% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line, outpacing Philadelphia in key moments down the stretch.

Maxey missed his 10th straight game due to lower back and finger sprains, but he is reportedly nearing a return. Former Spurs guard Lonnie Walker IV had three points in 11 minutes for the 76ers.

Sandro Mamukelashvili, coming off a career-high 34-point performance against the Knicks, struggled with just two points on 1-of-4 shooting. Despite his quiet night, San Antonio secured back-to-back home wins for the first time since mid-December.

The 76ers have now lost 18 of their last 21 games, continuing their downward slide without their star players.
