Reaves scores 30 as Lakers defeat Spurs

Austin Reaves led the Los Angeles Lakers with 30 points in a 125-109 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena.

Luka Doncic added 21 points, 14 assists, and nine rebounds despite shooting 5-for-20 from the field. Dorian Finney-Smith contributed 15 points, knocking down four 3-pointers as Los Angeles (42-25) secured its eighth consecutive home win.

Stephon Castle paced San Antonio (28-39) with 23 points, while Devin Vassell finished with 17, including 15 in the first half. The Spurs have now dropped five of their last seven games.

Reaves was instrumental in the third quarter, scoring nine points in a 3 ½-minute stretch to help the Lakers push their lead to 28. The Spurs responded with a 15-0 run but never trimmed the deficit to single digits.

The game, originally scheduled for Jan. 11, was postponed due to wildfires in Southern California.

A tense moment occurred in the fourth quarter when Jarred Vanderbilt shoved Jeremy Sochan after Sochan threw the ball at him following a foul. Both players were ejected.

Bronny James saw action in the final 2:30 and drilled a 3-pointer, drawing a standing ovation from the home crowd. Fans had been chanting for him to enter the game earlier.

With LeBron James missing his fifth straight game due to injury, Reaves has stepped up offensively, scoring at least 28 points in four straight contests. Before this stretch, he had reached that mark just four times in the Lakers’ first 63 games.

Los Angeles shot 48.9% from the field and made 19 3-pointers, capitalizing on San Antonio’s defensive struggles. The Spurs have struggled defensively since shutting down De’Aaron Fox for the season.
