Real Madrid officially announced that Sergio Llull and Tomas Van den Spiegel will stay with the club. Messina has worked with Van den Spiegel in CSKA and has said about Llull that "he is very important" and is looking forward to coach him.

"Real Madrid has used its option to extend Sergio Llull's contract for two more seasons; the point guard will stay on the team until the end of the 2010/11 campaign. The Club has also signed a new contract with Tomas van den Spiegel to keep him on the team for another season, with a unilateral option to extend it for one more."
