Galatasaray wants to play in the Euroleague, not the Champions League

Galatasaray have expressed a desire to play in next season’s Euroleague and not the FIBA Basketball Champions League.

The Turkish side currently play in the Eurocup and were invited to compete in the inaugural competition, governed by FIBA.

But manager Omer Yalcinkaya wants to play in the Euroleague. You can qualify for next season’s competition if you win the Eurocup, one of the three winners of their respective domestic leagues or a winner of the qualifying rounds.

“FIBA invited us. But our priority is the Euroleague, not the Champions League,” Yalcinkaya said. “We are waiting for an answer from Euroleague. We told them we want to play in Euroleague. If Euroleague leaves us out of the competition we may play in Champiosn League but we have not decided yet. FIBA [Champions League] could ba a good league if it’s well organised.”
