Former NBA big man Andrew Bogut has joined Brian Goorjian’s Sydney Kings coaching staff as an assistant, per Australia’s National Basketball League.
The No. 1 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Bogut played 14 seasons, earning All-NBA honors in 2010, an All-Defensive nod in 2015, and winning a championship with the Warriors that same year.
A former Sydney Kings star, he was the NBL MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 before becoming a part-owner of the team.
After retiring in 2020, Bogut felt the urge to return to the game.
“Being away for five years, the itch to get back on the court was growing stronger,” he said. “I’m honored to step into this position and work alongside Brian.”
Goorjian praised Bogut’s elite basketball IQ, calling him a “valuable addition” to the staff.
While Bogut is focused on his role in Australia, it remains to be seen if his coaching career could eventually lead him back to the NBA.
