Mavericks snap five-game skid with gritty win over Spurs

The short-handed Dallas Mavericks halted their losing streak by edging the San Antonio Spurs 133-129 on Monday night.

Spencer Dinwiddie led Dallas with 28 points off the bench, while Klay Thompson added 26 in his highest-scoring performance since joining the team.

Naji Marshall scored 24 points, and Kessler Edwards posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

San Antonio, which has now lost three straight, was led by Harrison Barnes’ 29 points, while Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell contributed 28 and 24, respectively.

Both teams were without key players, including Victor Wembanyama for the Spurs and Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis for the Mavericks.

Dallas, down to eight available players, saw Edwards play through an eye injury that required stitches the previous night.

The Spurs shot just 58.3% from the free-throw line, making 14 of 24 attempts, while Dallas converted 27 of 30.

Edwards hit two crucial free throws with 45.5 seconds remaining, securing the Mavericks’ narrow victory.

San Antonio made a late push, but Dallas’ efficiency at the line and Dinwiddie’s clutch scoring sealed the outcome.

Dallas (33-33) ended its five-game skid and remains 10th in the Western Conference, while San Antonio (26-37) stays 13th.
