Darjus Lavrinovic close to joining Real Madrid

Darjus LavrinovicSpanish newspaper Marca reports that Lithuanian power forward Darjus Lavrinovic is close to signing a contract with Real Madrid. Club's new coach Ettore Messina wanted a player who would be similar to Matjaz Smodis and be able to hit shots from the distance.

Darjus Lavrinovic spent last season in Russia playing for Dynamo Moscow. The club reached Eurocup Final Eight in Turin but were eliminated by Hemofarm Vrsac. Dynamo was hit by a financial crisis and couldn't pay wages to their players.

Head coach of Dynamo Moscow, David Blatt, didn't trust Lavrinovic too much as he let him stay on the court for 16 minutes per game. During that time Darjus Lavrinovic averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.

He should sign a contract with the Spanish giants once he passes medical testing.

Maccabi and Montepaschi were among the clubs that have shown interest in Darjus Lavrinovic but the best option for him was to sign with ambitious Real Madrid.
