Stephen Curry delivered 28 points and nine assists as the Golden State Warriors defeated the New York Knicks 114-102 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The win improved Golden State’s record to 34-28, while New York dropped to 40-21.
Curry, who has historically played well in the arena, now holds a 12-1 record at MSG. Brandin Podziemski and Jimmy Butler each contributed 19 points for the Warriors, who improved to 3-1 on their five-game road trip.
Draymond Green filled the stat sheet on his 35th birthday with eight points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. The Warriors have now won 12 of their last 14 games at Madison Square Garden.
OG Anunoby led the Knicks with 29 points, while Jalen Brunson finished with 25. New York, missing All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns due to personal reasons, saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
Without Towns, the Knicks struggled offensively, especially from three-point range, making just 8-of-33 attempts (24%). Mitchell Robinson, who started at center in just his third game back from ankle surgery, was limited to 15 minutes.
Golden State took control late, breaking open a tight contest with an 11-0 run after Curry and Brunson re-entered the game with 6:33 left. The Warriors held the Knicks scoreless for four minutes, extending their lead to 105-93 with 2:39 remaining.
Curry scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half, while Butler added 13 after the break. Despite playing on the second night of a back-to-back, Curry showed no lingering effects from the right ankle soreness he experienced in Charlotte on Monday.
Golden State shot 48.9% from the field and outscored New York 35-26 in the third quarter to take control. Buddy Hield added 15 points off the bench, while Green’s all-around play helped stabilize the Warriors on both ends.
The Knicks struggled to generate consistent offense without Towns’ inside presence. Anunoby and Brunson combined for 54 points, but the rest of the team shot just 41.6% from the field. Josh Hart, known for his hustle and rebounding, had just two points on 1-of-8 shooting.
