Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks overcame a 19-point deficit to secure a 116-112 overtime victory against the Miami Heat on Sunday night. The win extended New York’s streak to three games and strengthened its position as the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
Brunson, who finished with 31 points, emphasized the team’s resilience in his postgame interview. “It doesn’t matter what the score is. I mean, we’re gonna keep fighting no matter what,” Brunson said, via ClutchPoints. “We’re capable as a team, and Thibs knows that. He just had to remind us.”
OG Anunoby contributed 23 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 19 points and 16 rebounds. The Knicks trailed by 17 at halftime but mounted a comeback, closing the third quarter on a 17-5 run to cut into the deficit.
Brunson’s clutch three-pointer with 2:27 left in overtime gave New York a 111-110 lead, sparking a decisive 7-0 run. Alec Burks cut the deficit to two with a late three, but Anunoby sealed the game with a dunk in the final seconds.
Miami was led by Bam Adebayo, who scored 30 points on 12-for-16 shooting. Tyler Herro added 22 points, while rookie Kel’el Ware contributed 12 points and a career-high six blocks.
The Heat were in control early, dominating the paint and outscoring New York by 20 inside by halftime. However, the Knicks tightened up defensively in the second half, limiting Miami’s scoring opportunities while capitalizing on turnovers.
New York took its first lead of the game with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter on a jumper by Miles McBride. Down by four in the final minute of regulation, the Knicks forced overtime with an Anunoby tip-in and a Brunson jumper.
The Heat, now 28-31, were without Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr., both sidelined due to ankle injuries. Haywood Highsmith and Duncan Robinson combined for 18 points off the bench, while Davion Mitchell added 11.
New York shot 48.4% from the field but struggled from three, hitting just 31.8% of its attempts. Miami, shooting 53.6% overall, committed 12 turnovers that led to costly extra possessions for the Knicks.
