Mark Williams paced the Hornets with 24 points and 12 rebounds, but Charlotte struggled to keep up after a sluggish third quarter. LaMelo Ball scored 20 points, and Miles Bridges had 18 in the loss.
Washington outscored Charlotte 30-16 in the third quarter after Bub Carrington drained consecutive three-pointers to create separation. Smart extended the lead to 14 early in the fourth with a three-pointer and a floater.
The Wizards’ bench dominated, outscoring Charlotte’s reserves 50-13. Kispert, Holmes, and Justin Champagnie provided key production to help Washington maintain its lead.
Alex Sarr returned from an ankle injury and logged 10 points in 22 minutes, shooting 4-of-10 from the field. The 7-footer showed flashes of his defensive presence despite limited playing time.
Charlotte’s bench struggled due to multiple injuries, forcing deeper rotation players into extended minutes. Malachi Flynn made his Hornets debut after signing with the team, finishing with two points in eight minutes.
The Wizards improved to 11-48 but remain last in the Eastern Conference standings. The Hornets dropped their sixth straight game, falling to 14-45 and remaining just ahead of Washington.
