FIBA Basketball Champions League schedule released

The FIBA Basketball Champions League will officially begin on September 27 with two rounds of qualification games as the governing body released a season schedule outlining their new venture.

Once the qualification rounds are done then the regular season will begin on October 20 with FIBA aiming for the tenth round of regular season games to be played on December 22 with round eleven being contested in the New Year. Then once the first stage is over, there will be a two week gap.

The season-ending Final Four is set to commence from April 28-30.

Teams from all over Europe have been given invites to the new tournament, most notably from Latvia, FYR of Macedonia, Slovenia and Great Britain, the latter of which has been well known to struggle financially when competing in European competitions.

Via FIBA’s press release:

* France and Germany not having any team in EuroLeague will receive one extra slot to Basketball Champions League RS. If any of the teams from France or Germany participate in Euroleague, number of slots will be adjusted.

** Participation of Montenegro and Slovenia in Basketball Champions League will depend on the participation of ABA Teams in EuroLeague:

If there is no representation of ABA teams in EuroLeague, Montenegro will have 1 direct slot during BCL RS and Slovenia 1 slot during BCL QR.

If there is representation of ABA teams in EuroLeague, Montenegro will have 1 slot during BCL QR and Slovenia will have 1 direct slot during EC RS.

Definite number of slots will be adjusted at the later stage.
