Jayson Tatum delivered a dominant performance as the Boston Celtics defeated the San Antonio Spurs 116-103 on Wednesday night. The All-Star forward recorded 32 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists, securing Boston’s third straight victory and seventh win in eight games.
Kristaps Porzingis added 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Derrick White contributed 19 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Boston improved to 39-16 and strengthened its hold on the second seed in the Eastern Conference heading into the All-Star break.
The Celtics built a commanding 66-47 halftime lead, but San Antonio fought back in the third quarter. The Spurs trimmed the deficit to 93-85 early in the fourth before Boston responded with a 23-18 run to close out the game.
De’Aaron Fox led the Spurs with 23 points, five assists, and three rebounds in his fifth game since being traded from Sacramento. Victor Wembanyama added 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, but San Antonio fell to 23-29 on the season.
Rookie Stephon Castle provided a spark off the bench, scoring 20 points in 24 minutes. However, the Spurs struggled from beyond the arc, making just 9-of-39 (23.1%) three-pointers, compared to Boston’s 18-of-55 (32.7%).
San Antonio has won just three of its last eight games but hopes to benefit from additional practice time after the break. The team is still adjusting to its new lineup following the acquisition of Fox before the trade deadline.
Tatum continued his stellar campaign, posting his 19th game of the season with at least 30 points. He shot 12-of-25 from the field and hit four three-pointers while controlling the glass with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Porzingis remained an efficient scoring threat, finishing with 29 points, six rebounds, and three three-pointers. White provided steady playmaking, leading the Celtics with nine assists and anchoring the defense with his versatility.
Boston’s depth was also on display, with Payton Pritchard contributing 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Torrey Craig chipped in six points in limited minutes, while Al Horford secured 10 rebounds despite struggling with his shot.
For San Antonio, Fox continued to assert himself as the team’s primary offensive weapon. Wembanyama had an impact on both ends but shot 7-of-16 from the field, including 1-of-6 from deep.
The Spurs struggled to contain Boston’s perimeter shooting and ball movement. The Celtics dominated the rebounding battle 56-38 and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 15 offensive boards.
