Wembanyama, Fox combine for 61 points as Spurs defeat Wizards

Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox powered the San Antonio Spurs past the Washington Wizards in a 131-121 victory on Monday night. Wembanyama led with 31 points and 15 rebounds, while Fox added 30 points to keep the Spurs on track.

San Antonio (23-28) opened the game with a dominant 22-0 run but struggled to maintain control as Washington (9-44) fought back. The Wizards trailed by just three at halftime before the Spurs pulled away late.

Wembanyama started hot, making his first four three-pointers within the first eight minutes. Although he didn’t match his career-high 50-point performance against Washington from November, he remained a dominant presence.

Fox was aggressive attacking the rim, going 15-for-18 from the free-throw line. Chris Paul contributed 10 assists, while rookie Stephon Castle provided 16 points off the bench.

Tristan Vukcevic led the Wizards with 18 points, and Washington had nine players score in double figures. Jordan Poole struggled from deep, making just 2 of 13 three-point attempts.

The Spurs shot 51.1% from the field and 44.7% from three-point range, helping them withstand Washington’s comeback attempts. The Wizards shot just 29.8% from beyond the arc.
