Ben Simmons is set to continue his career in Los Angeles. The three-time All-Star has agreed to sign with the Clippers after finalizing a buyout with the Brooklyn Nets, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Simmons, 28, is averaging 6.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in 25 minutes per game this season. His role in Brooklyn had diminished due to injuries and inconsistent play, leading to a mutual decision to part ways.
The Clippers, currently 28-23 and seventh in the Western Conference, are looking to strengthen their depth as they push for playoff positioning. Simmons’ defensive versatility and playmaking ability could provide a boost to their second unit.
Despite struggling to recapture his All-Star form, Simmons remains an elite defender and facilitator. The Clippers are betting on his ability to complement their star duo of Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.
Simmons’ departure marks the end of a disappointing tenure in Brooklyn. After being acquired from Philadelphia in the James Harden trade, he played in 90 games over three seasons due to injuries and setbacks.
For the Clippers, adding Simmons presents a low-risk, high-reward scenario. If healthy, he can provide size, defense, and ball-handling, easing the offensive workload on their primary stars.
Brooklyn, now 18-34 and 12th in the East, will move forward with a younger core after offloading Simmons’ contract.
