Victor Wembanyama is excited about the San Antonio Spurs’ latest move, acquiring De’Aaron Fox in a blockbuster trade that has sent shockwaves through the NBA. The young Spurs star shared his thoughts on the trade just one day after the Lakers’ trade for Luka Dončić.

“It just shows that they’re not here to waste time and they’re willing to take the next step on time. We’re moving forward,” Wembanyama said, per Michael C. Wright. “I think it’s a good step in the building of our future. I’m going to miss dearly my teammates.”

In a major three-team deal, the Sacramento Kings traded Fox, along with Jordan McLaughlin, to the Spurs. The Kings received Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and two second-round picks. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls added Zach Collins, Tre Jones, and a 2025 first-round pick, while also acquiring Kevin Huerter from the Kings.

For the Spurs, this move is a clear indication of their commitment to future success. Currently sitting 12th in the Western Conference with a 21-26 record, San Antonio is looking to accelerate its rebuilding process with Fox’s help. The dynamic point guard is averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game this season, making him an immediate upgrade for the Spurs’ roster.

Fox’s arrival gives San Antonio a proven scorer and playmaker to pair with Wembanyama, who has been a standout in his second NBA season. Wembanyama has been averaging 24.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and an impressive 4 blocks per game.

Fox’s presence on the court will be vital in helping San Antonio’s young core develop, and he’s expected to play a crucial role in their playoff aspirations. With Wembanyama and Fox leading the charge, the Spurs have a promising foundation to build upon.
