Young drops 34 points, lifts Hawks over Pistons with clutch shot

Trae Young delivered in the closing moments, sinking a 23-foot fadeaway with 1.6 seconds left to propel the Atlanta Hawks past the Detroit Pistons, 132-130, on Monday night.

Young scored 17 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, leading Atlanta (23-37) to a much-needed victory that snapped an eight-game losing streak.

The Hawks’ star guard, who had been listed as probable with right Achilles tendonitis, shot 9-of-16 from the field, 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Detroit (25-25) had a chance to respond, but the Pistons failed to get a shot off in their final possession. Cade Cunningham finished with 30 points and 14 assists, but it was not enough to avoid the narrow defeat.

De’Andre Hunter added 20 points for Atlanta, while rookie Zaccharie Risacher contributed 17. Dyson Daniels had a standout performance with 19 points, six rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and three blocks.

The Pistons had balanced scoring, with Tobias Harris contributing 22 points and Jalen Duren posting 18 points and nine rebounds. Malik Beasley added 18 points while hitting six three-pointers, bringing his season total to 191.

Atlanta shot 51.9% from the field and 43.2% from deep, while Detroit finished at 51.8% overall but struggled from three-point range, converting only 33.3%. The Pistons dominated the boards 41-37 but were undone by their inability to execute late.

The Hawks, playing without Jalen Johnson, leaned heavily on Young, who delivered with key free throws and his game-winning shot to secure the victory.
