Adam Silver: “NBA is beyond basketball”

During the NBA Paris Global Games 2025, the NBA commissioner Adam Silver had a press conference before the first match between Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs and mentioned that the NBA League is beyond the basketball.

“This is my first time back in France since the Olympics. Now, for this opportunity, this week, it is good to be back here, with these two teams in Paris. This is actually the first time we played two games in the same city during our regular season. Our teams are enjoying their time here. One of the benefits of playing two games in one city gives our teams opportunity to explore the city. Something we would only be able to do during the preseason in friendlies, but in this case we all really enjoying be here. And Victor had the opportunity to take his team out and show them some of the finest points of Paris, great food and city-seeing and probably some shopping. Same for Indiana Pacers, they were enjoying as well”, started his press conference Adam Silver.

“In the terms of popularity, even though, this time were two games, I have to mention that both these games are sold out within 24 hours. These games are being some kind of European All Stars for us, it is an opportunity for the fans to mark their calendar months in advance where they can participate in the huge gathering of NBA supporters”, said Adam, who mentioned that the NBA won’t stop in Paris only.

“Europe needs to stay tuned”, said the NBA commissioner, who emphasized that the NBA is more than basketball.

“NBA is not just basketball, it is beyond basketball. It is brand of its own that gathers not just basketball fans, but movie stars, famous singers, different kind of athletes. We want to continue to grow our brand and I think we are doing a great job doing just that”, said Silver, who as well mention that European market is always interesting for the NBA.

“We are looking very closely to see if there’s an opportunity to professionalize the game to another level here, to create a larger commercial opportunity. And not just because commercial opportunity suggests you can grow revenue, but because we believe that with markets, if you can create proper incentives, you can get significant additional investment. And ultimately, that’s the way to grow the game at all levels”, Adam confirmed that the NBA is still negotiating with the FIBA about European market.
