Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid will be re-evaluated in seven to ten days after experiencing swelling in his left knee.
The swelling occurred following a workout on Thursday, during which Embiid was aiming to get back to form after missing the last six games due to a left foot sprain.
While the sprain has fully healed, the knee issue emerged as a setback.
So far this season, Embiid has only appeared in 13 games, averaging 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in 29.4 minutes of play.
His limited appearances have raised concerns about his health and availability moving forward, especially given his crucial role in the team’s success.
In September, Embiid signed a three-year, $193 million extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, which represents the maximum amount he was eligible for.
This extension added to his existing lucrative contract, meaning that as he entered the 2024-2025 season, he was set to earn nearly $300 million in guaranteed money over the next five seasons, through 2029.
Embiid has played 9 seasons for the 76ers. He has averaged 27.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 446 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 7 All-Star games and has won 1 MVP award.
