Kevin Durant recently shared his all-time starting five on the Out The Mud Podcast, selecting Kobe Bryant over Michael Jordan at shooting guard. Durant emphasized Kobe’s superior range and technical versatility as the deciding factors in his choice.

While acknowledging Michael Jordan’s greatness, Durant explained his reasoning. “Skill-wise—Kobe. He’s got that three-ball, he can handle, he’s got the wiggle, and he can do all the technical stuff MJ can do,” Durant stated, via HoopsHype. The decision, he noted, was based on skill rather than legacy or accolades.

Durant’s lineup featured his close friend Kyrie Irving at point guard, praising Irving’s ball-handling and scoring ability. Tracy McGrady was his pick at small forward, with Durant calling T-Mac’s blend of size, skill, and scoring “unstoppable.”

For the power forward position, Durant placed himself, citing his own versatility as a scorer and defender. At center, he chose Kevin Garnett, describing him as “too underrated” and lauding Garnett’s defensive prowess and intensity.

Durant admitted that leaving out other legends was difficult but stressed that his selection was based on pure skill. His choice of Kobe over Jordan, however, sparked significant debate online, with fans arguing over the merits of each player.

This is not the first time Durant has praised Bryant’s game. He has often spoken about Kobe’s influence on his career, describing the late Lakers legend as one of the most skilled players in NBA history.
