The Charlotte Hornets have recently completed a trade that saw Nick Richards move to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Josh Okogie and future second-round draft picks.

This deal marks a step toward reshaping the roster, but Hornets’ front office leader, Jeff Peterson, has made it clear that the team is not done making moves and remains open to further adjustments as they look to improve their future prospects.

“We’ve received calls on several of our players,” Peterson shared. “Nick Richards, for example, attracted interest from multiple teams. We have some solid talent on this roster, but the injuries we’ve dealt with have disrupted our ability to build strong team chemistry.

“It’s been difficult to truly see what this group can achieve together given the challenges.”

He emphasized that the Hornets are committed to making decisions that will best serve the organization moving forward. While they are willing to listen to offers, Peterson insisted that the team’s long-term future is a top priority.

“At this point, we are open to discussions and considering all opportunities. However, we are not going to make any moves that would compromise the future. The goal is always to do what’s best for the team’s sustainability and long-term success,” he said.

Charlotte’s front office chief further elaborated on the team’s philosophy, stressing that the Hornets are not interested in taking shortcuts for short-term success.

“I have no interest in making a playoff push just for one season, only to fall out of contention for the next four or five years. We want to build something that can endure, something with real sustainability,” Peterson explained.

“At the same time, we need to keep making strategic moves, like this trade, to add valuable assets – whether it’s draft picks or other opportunities – that can give us the flexibility and options to strengthen our future.”

Hornets’ executive’s approach indicates a focus on creating a strong foundation for the team rather than making impulsive moves aimed at immediate success, and he stressed the importance of continuing to build a solid team for the years to come.
