The Phoenix Suns and the Charlotte Hornets have completed a trade that sees the Suns strengthen their center position and the Hornets acquire more future assets. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Phoenix will receive 7-foot center Nick Richards and one second-round pick, while Charlotte lands forward Josh Okogie and three second-round picks.

Richards, who has been a solid presence in the paint for the Hornets this season, has averaged 11.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. His efficient shooting—he’s connected on 65% of his field goals over the last four seasons—makes him a valuable addition to Phoenix, who has been seeking help at center.

The Suns (19-20), currently sitting at 11th in the Western Conference, are hoping Richards can help them make a push for the playoffs. The team has struggled with consistency this season, and Richards’ rebounding and shot-blocking ability should provide a much-needed boost in their efforts to climb up the standings.

In exchange, Charlotte (9-28), which is in the midst of a rebuilding phase, acquires Okogie, who has averaged 6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 14 minutes per game for Phoenix this season. Okogie will provide depth to the Hornets’ wing rotation, and with the team’s focus on future development, he offers additional versatility on both ends of the floor.

In terms of draft assets, the trade also includes three second-round picks heading to Charlotte. These picks are as follows: the 2026 and 2031 Denver second-round picks, and the 2031 Phoenix second-round pick. Meanwhile, the Suns will receive a 2025 second-round pick from Denver.
