The Washington Wizards may have a valuable trade asset in Jonas Valanciunas as the NBA trade deadline approaches. According to Josh Robbins and David Aldridge of The Athletic, there is speculation that the Wizards could secure significant draft capital if they move the Lithuanian center.

One league source, not directly involved in discussions with Washington, told The Athletic that while two second-round picks are a likely outcome, a package including two first-round picks could also be possible, depending on the circumstances. Any incoming contracts, however, would need to align with the Wizards’ long-term payroll strategy.

Valanciunas, 32, is in the first year of a three-year, $30 million deal with the Wizards. Despite his solid production—11.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in just under 20 minutes per game off the bench—the veteran big man has grown frustrated with Washington’s struggles. The team currently holds a league-worst 6-32 record, solidifying their position at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

For Washington, Valanciunas represents a prime opportunity to add assets as they navigate their rebuild. His contract is seen as team-friendly, making him a desirable target for playoff contenders seeking a reliable presence in the paint.

While the Los Angeles Lakers were previously rumored to be interested, recent reports indicate that the Purple and Gold have shifted their focus away from bolstering their frontcourt.
