D’Angelo Russell reflects on Lakers-Nets trade: “It feels good”

D’Angelo Russell recently opened up about being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets, calling it a “good feeling” to return to familiar territory. The trade sent Russell and Maxwell Lewis to Brooklyn in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.

Russell expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to rejoin the Nets. “It’s a good feeling, honestly, to go back somewhere you’re comfortable, somewhere you know the ins and outs a little bit,” he said, via Brian Lewis. “See some familiar faces. It kind of makes the process a little easier to adjust to. So I’m just grateful for that.”

The move marks a homecoming for Russell, who spent two seasons with the franchise through 2017-29. During that time, he earned his first All-Star selection in 2019 before being traded to the Golden State Warriors as part of the Kevin Durant deal.

Russell wasted no time making an impact in his Nets return, debuting with 22 points and 8 assists in a 113-130 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The trade represents a significant shift for the Lakers, who opted to bolster their lineup with Finney-Smith’s defensive versatility and Milton’s scoring off the bench. Los Angeles has struggled to find consistency in the 2024-25 season, prompting the front office to retool their roster in hopes of improving their playoff chances.
