Jonas Valanciunas recently revealed that the New York Knicks expressed interest in acquiring him during the offseason. The Washington Wizards center discussed the potential trade talks in an interview with Stefan Bondy.
“I heard something from that side. But there’s a lot of X&Os. Salary cap issues, this and that. Strategic stuff. Every team does what they think is the best for them,” Valanciunas explained.
The 31-year-old veteran signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Washington Wizards last summer. The contract includes a fully non-guaranteed third year, making it a flexible asset for teams in search of additional depth.
Valanciunas has been a consistent presence in the paint, averaging 11.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 19.9 minutes per game this season. His scoring and rebounding efficiency have made him one of the most sought-after centers ahead of the trade deadline.
His strong play has drawn interest from several teams, with the Los Angeles Lakers frequently mentioned as a frontrunner for a potential trade.
Despite the rumors, Valanciunas remains focused on his role with the Wizards, who are reportedly seeking second-round picks in exchange for the Lithuanian big man.
