The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived guard PJ Dozier, the team announced. The 28-year-old joined the Timberwolves during the offseason after spending a year in the EuroLeague with Partizan Belgrade.
Dozier appeared in nine games for Minnesota this season, averaging 0.8 points in 3.9 minutes per game. His limited role and production made him a likely candidate for the roster move as the Timberwolves looked to address financial considerations.
Bobby Marks, ESPN’s NBA Front Office insider, provided further details on the move via Twitter. He explained that waiving Dozier will result in a $1,051,255 cap hit for Minnesota while saving the team approximately $5 million in luxury tax payments.
Dozier, who has played for multiple NBA teams since going undrafted in 2017, has yet to secure a consistent role in the league. Known for his defensive versatility, the guard will now enter the waiver market in search of a new opportunity.
