Trae Young led the Atlanta Hawks to a 117-104 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, scoring 29 points and dishing out seven assists. Garrison Mathews added a career-best performance with seven 3-pointers and a season-high 25 points off the bench.
Atlanta, now 15-15, ended a three-game skid with the victory. Young, listed as questionable due to a bruised heel, showed no lingering effects as the Hawks climbed back to .500 ahead of the holiday break.
De’Andre Hunter chipped in with 19 points, while Dyson Daniels contributed a standout defensive performance, recording eight steals.
The Timberwolves, who fell to 14-14 with their third consecutive loss, struggled despite a strong showing from Naz Reid. Reid tallied 23 points off the bench, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.
Anthony Edwards, making his only regular-season appearance in his hometown, scored 16 points but shot just 7-for-20 from the field and committed five turnovers under pressure from Daniels’ defense.
The Hawks shot an impressive 50% from three-point range, making 18 of 36 attempts. In contrast, the Timberwolves hit only 32.6% of their threes, going 14-for-43. Atlanta also capitalized on turnovers, forcing 21 miscues and scoring 23 points off those errors.
