A Cedi Osman-inspired 12-0 run in the third quarter handed Anadolu Efes an 81-74 win over Darussafaka Dogus in Group E of the Euroleague Top 16.
Jayson Granger came off the bench to rack up 15 points and eight assists for Efes, who improved to 2-1 in the pool, but it was Osman’s five points and two blocks in a frantic span of 30 seconds that was noted as the hosts burst away from their contenders, leaving them for dust.
“We did a great job,” said Granger. “We controlled most of the game. In three quarters we were ahead on points. We controlled the game better than we did in the previous game against Darussafaka Dogus, which we played a few days ago [in the Turkish League]. We are happy with the job we did.”
Scottie Wilbekin led Darussafaka with 20 points but remain winless.
In Group F, Brose Baskets stunned Olympiacos by beating them 77-72 in Piraeus.
The German side raced out of the blocks in the first period, taking an 18-10 cushion, and they then went ahead and extended it to 39-26 at the break, leaving the fans inside the Peace and Friendship Stadium stunned.
The Greeks tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but Bamberg kept them at bay.
Darius Miller paced Brose Baskets with 23 points as both sides now own 2-1 records.
Sarunas Jasikevicius’ first game in charge of Zalgiris ended in defeat as champions Real Madrid bested the Lithuanian giants 92-86 in the Spanish capital.
Felipe Reyes led the winners with 24 points, a new career high in his 243-game career in the competition.
“There are no easy opponents in this group,” Reyes said. “I believe we played really well in the first 15 minutes and relaxed a bit after that. Then in the second half, when you allow your opponent to get back in the game, they feel confident and everything is more difficult.
“We are happy with the win. It is very important for us to win all of our home games. We are playing well and have to keep going like that, winning our next three home games no matter what.”
The third game in Group F saw Khimki get the better of Laboral Kutxa 76-68 in the Russian capital.
With the game tied at 39-39 at the half, Khimki broke free in the third quarter, holding Laboral Kutxa to just nine points in the third, taking a 59-48 cushion from there and never looking back.
Alexey Shved led Khimki with 24 points.
