Cleveland Cavaliers guards Donovan Mitchell (shoulder) and Darius Garland (head) seem to have avoided serious injuries after both players experienced concerning moments during Tuesday’s win over the Washington Wizards, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Garland took a hit to the back of his head during the third quarter and was held out for the remainder of the game. While Garland may still need to pass through the NBA’s concussion protocol before returning to play, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson expressed optimism about Garland’s condition.
“He looked fine in the locker room,” Atkinson said, as reported by Fedor. “Doesn’t look like anything that’ll hold him out. He gave me the thumbs up, and I don’t think he’ll miss any time at all. I think he’s fine.”
Mitchell, on the other hand, appeared to escape any major concerns with his shoulder after the game, though more updates may be available later. The Cavaliers are hopeful that both players can recover quickly and avoid significant time on the sideline.
