Paul George led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 110-104 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night, scoring 29 points on an efficient 10-for-16 shooting, including six three-pointers. This win marked the first time Philadelphia (5-14) secured consecutive victories this season.
Tyrese Maxey added 21 points, including eight critical points in the final 30 seconds to seal the win. Jared McCain contributed 17 points off the bench, while Kelly Oubre Jr. chipped in 14 for the Sixers, who finished their Group A NBA Cup play with a 2-2 record but did not advance.
The Hornets (6-15) fell short despite an impressive 34-point outing from Brandon Miller, who hit seven three-pointers. Nick Richards recorded a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in his second game back from injury. Charlotte’s struggles continued as the team concluded its homestand winless in five games.
Philadelphia controlled much of the game, maintaining a double-digit lead for significant stretches. However, a late rally from Charlotte, highlighted by Miller’s seventh three-pointer, gave the Hornets a brief lead with 1:32 remaining. Maxey’s clutch layup regained the lead for Philadelphia, and he closed the game with four free throws and a transition layup.
The 76ers showcased improved ball movement, with George also contributing eight assists. Guerschon Yabusele added seven points and 12 rebounds in a solid defensive effort. Philadelphia’s bench played a pivotal role, with McCain and Caleb Martin combining for 22 points.
For Charlotte, rookie Tidjane Salaun registered his first career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Fellow rookie K.J. Simpson contributed eight points, nine assists, and six rebounds, showing promise despite the loss.
Mark Williams made his return for the Hornets after nearly a year off due to injury, though he looked rusty with just four points and three rebounds in limited minutes.
Philadelphia’s win is part of an encouraging stretch, with the team winning three of its last five games after a slow start to the season. In contrast, Charlotte’s defeat extended its NBA Cup struggles, as it finished 0-4 in pool play.
