The New York Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 111-99 on Tuesday, fueled by a standout performance from OG Anunoby, who scored 24 points. Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points and 13 rebounds, helping the Knicks secure a solid start in NBA Cup Group A play.
Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid returned to action, marking his season debut after a lengthy break since the Paris Olympics, but his impact was limited. Embiid finished with 13 points in 26 minutes, shooting only 2-of-11 from the floor and pulling down three rebounds.
Paul George led the Sixers with 29 points and 10 rebounds, but the team struggled to maintain offensive consistency and fell to a 2-8 record.
Josh Hart delivered a well-rounded performance for New York, scoring 14 points and posting a triple-double with 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Anunoby capitalized on missed defensive assignments by Embiid, adding multiple dunks in a decisive 13-2 fourth-quarter run that helped the Knicks extend their lead.
Jalen Brunson also contributed to the Knicks’ balanced attack with 18 points, while Miles McBride added 15 points off the bench, as the team recorded 31 assists on 44 field goals and shot nearly 50% from the floor.
The 76ers, who now stand at the bottom of Group A, displayed early energy as Caleb Martin scored 17 points and Embiid provided some presence at the rim.
However, they were unable to withstand New York’s ball movement and rebounding edge. Despite George’s shooting efficiency, Philadelphia’s lack of depth showed, particularly in their 37.3% overall shooting, which limited their ability to keep up with the Knicks’ fast-paced offense.
