The Memphis Grizzlies have declined their $5.16 million team option on Jake LaRavia for the 2025-26 season. This decision means that the 23-year-old forward will enter unrestricted free agency after the current season.

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported the development, stating that while Memphis has opted against exercising LaRavia’s team option, the organization remains interested in re-signing him. This reflects the team’s belief in his potential and ongoing development.

Drew Hill added that the Grizzlies are encouraged by LaRavia’s progress but opted to maintain flexibility in their roster. The team already has 12 players signed for the 2025-26 season and aims to keep options open for their young wing players.

LaRavia was initially selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the 19th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. His rights were later traded to Memphis, along with a future second-round pick, for the 22nd and 29th picks, which became Walker Kessler and TyTy Washington.

During the 2023-24 season, LaRavia showcased his skills with averages of 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 23 minutes per game. His performance indicated a promising future, and the Grizzlies were optimistic about his growth.

This season, LaRavia has been averaging 7.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 25.3 minutes per game over the first six games.

By declining LaRavia’s team option, the Grizzlies have opened up financial flexibility while still leaving the door open for his return.
