Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has declared himself “perfect” as the 2024-25 NBA season begins, despite missing the entire preseason due to a left calf contusion. The injury, considered minor, kept the 25-year-old out of preseason games, but Doncic is ready for the team’s season opener against the San Antonio Spurs.
Doncic reassured fans and the media about his health in a recent interview, where he said that he feels perfect to start the season. “It’s gonna be a lot of fun,” he added, via Eddie Sefko. This news comes as a relief for the Mavericks, who rely heavily on Doncic’s playmaking abilities and leadership on the court.
Last season, Doncic delivered some of the most remarkable performances of his career. He kicked off the 2023-24 season with a triple-double of 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in a win over the Spurs. Just two days later, he followed it up with a 49-point game against the Brooklyn Nets, including a career-high nine three-pointers.
In January 2024, Doncic etched his name in the record books by scoring a career-high 73 points in a win over the Atlanta Hawks. He became the fourth player in NBA history to score over 70 points in a game, with his efficiency setting a new standard. His 25-of-33 shooting made it the most efficient 70-point game in league history.
As Doncic begins the new season, expectations remain high for both him and the Mavericks. The 25-year-old Slovenian guard led his team to the 2024 NBA Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics in five games. Despite the defeat, Doncic finished the postseason as the leader in points, rebounds, and assists, averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game.
His dominance on the court has continued to grow each year, earning him five All-NBA First Team selections by the age of 25, a feat matched by only a few NBA greats, including Kevin Durant and Tim Duncan. Doncic’s versatility and ability to score, rebound, and distribute the ball make him a vital player for Dallas as they look to compete for a championship this season.
As the Mavericks prepare for their season opener, all eyes will be on Doncic to see if he can replicate his success from last year and lead Dallas back to the Finals. With his health intact and confidence high, Doncic seems poised to make yet another strong run in 2024-25.
