The Ligue Nationale de Basket’s financial oversight body, La Direction Nationale du Conseil et du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCCG), has revealed the projected budgets and salaries for clubs in the French Basketball League, Betclic ÉLITE and for the 2024-2025 season. The latest figures show significant growth, particularly among teams competing in the EuroLeague.
This season, Betclic ÉLITE clubs have recorded an average budget of €8.7 million, a 10% increase compared to the previous season. The budgets of the division, excluding EuroLeague participants, grew by 3%, though disparities exist between clubs.
The median budget in Betclic ÉLITE stands at €6.3 million, the highest in the league’s history. The impact of Paris Basketball’s first EuroLeague appearance has been notable, as the team doubled its budget from the previous year, contributing significantly to the overall rise.
Despite the increase in budgets, the rise in team salary caps has been more moderate. The average salary cap across Betclic ÉLITE clubs increased by 11%, while the median remained steady compared to the 2023-2024 season.
Among the top-budgeted teams, AS Monaco remains at the forefront with a projected €29.4 million budget, a 7% increase. Paris Basketball, meanwhile, has seen the most dramatic growth, with its budget jumping to €18.9 million, a staggering 104% increase from last year.
For Pro B, the second-tier division, the average budget for the 2024-2025 season has reached a record €3.5 million. Several Pro B teams are increasing their budgets as they aim for promotion to the first division. The influx of teams from NM1, with significant financial backing, has also contributed to this increase.
JL Bourg Basket, Elan Chalon, and Cholet Basket are among the Betclic ÉLITE teams with notable budget growth. JL Bourg, for instance, saw its budget rise to €7.8 million, a 6% increase, while Elan Chalon’s budget jumped by 8%, reaching €6.2 million.
Meanwhile, some clubs experienced budget cuts, such as Limoges CSP, which reduced its budget by 12% to €5.4 million. Similarly, BCM Gravelines Dunkerque’s budget dropped 12%, standing at €5.5 million.
