Former NBA coach Monty Williams has accepted the head coaching position at TMI Episcopal prep school in San Antonio. NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed that Williams will be coaching his son, Elijah, at the school, marking a shift from his recent role in the NBA.
Williams’ transition to the high school coaching scene comes after his tenure with the Detroit Pistons ended in June 2024. Despite being hired as the Pistons’ head coach in June 2023, his stint was brief and tumultuous. Detroit struggled under his leadership, losing 28 consecutive games, marking the longest losing streak in NBA history within a single season.
In addition to the historic losing streak, the Pistons endured a winless month in November 2023, going 0-15. With a final record of 14-68 for the 2023-24 season, the Pistons finished with the league’s worst performance. Williams was subsequently dismissed from the position, despite having five years and $65 million remaining on his contract.
