The Memphis Grizzlies have officially signed guard Scotty Pippen Jr. to a four-year deal, solidifying his place in the team’s rotation. NBA insider Michael Scotto broke the news on X, noting that Pippen Jr. had averaged 12.9 points, 4.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game last season. His performance as a role player for Memphis has earned him a long-term commitment.
Pippen Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. He initially signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, spending much of the 2022–23 season playing for their G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
While Pippen’s NBA journey started with the Lakers, it wasn’t until he joined the Grizzlies in 2024 that he found a steady role. His consistent play and ability to impact games on both ends of the floor caught the attention of Memphis’ front office.
Pippen’s journey to securing a multi-year contract hasn’t been easy. After being waived by the Lakers in October 2023, he rejoined the South Bay Lakers but soon signed a two-way contract with the Grizzlies. His strong play earned him a spot in injury-depleted Memphis’ rotation, leading to his promotion to a standard NBA contract just before the start of the 2024–25 season.
With his new deal, Pippen will have the opportunity to continue growing as a player, learning from the Grizzlies’ coaching staff, and contributing to the team’s pursuit of success in the Western Conference. Memphis’ decision to lock him in for four years shows that they see a bright future for him within their system.
