Maccabi Tel Aviv has moved swiftly to fill the gap left by Jordan Loyd’s departure, announcing the signing of playmaker Saben Lee on a two-year deal. The Israeli club announced Lee’s arrival on Sunday, securing the services of the 25-year-old playmaker after his standout performances in the Basketball Champions League (BCL) this season.
Lee made headlines across Europe with his explosive performances for Manisa Basket in the BCL. In his debut, he posted 36 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, followed by an impressive 43-point showing in his second game, tying the competition’s all-time scoring record. He became the first player in BCL history to score 30 points or more in his first two appearances.
Excited to join Maccabi, Lee expressed his gratitude and ambition on the team’s official website. “I’m excited to join such a historic club and excited for this season,” Lee said. “I hope we can win a lot of games this season and make the fans proud! I’m very grateful for the opportunity here. Also want to say thank you to the management, coaches, and everyone that had a say in getting me suited up in a Maccabi jersey. Let’s go, Maccabi Tel Aviv! Can’t wait to get to work.”
Lee’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Maccabi Tel Aviv, who lost Jordan Loyd shortly after he joined the club. Lee is expected to fill the gap with his dynamic playmaking ability and scoring prowess.
Lee began his professional career in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, where he played 85 games between 2020 and 2022. After a brief stint with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2022-23 season, Lee moved to the Phoenix Suns, appearing in 47 games through the 2023-24 season. Over his NBA career, Lee averaged 5.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in 134 appearances.
In addition to his NBA experience, Lee also spent time in the G League, playing for the Motor City Cruise, Delaware Blue Coats, and Raptors 905.
Before going pro, Lee had a successful collegiate career at Vanderbilt University from 2017 to 2020. During his final season, he averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals in 32 games, showcasing his potential as an all-around guard.
